Moor Moors!

Grandma Sue-Sue and Grandpa Pa rarely make it through the Sydney winter without a tropical sojourn, and this year was no exception. Us in our caravan and them in a camper van, we took off for a bit of Free Camping, with some excellent success. Crystal Creek in the Paluma Range National park now sits as one of our best campsites. Having spent a fair few nights favouring camping sites with kids facilities (play parks, jumping pillows and water slides) it turned out that Mother Nature had these man made attractions covered. A secluded spot by a sparkling river, campfire at night…and a natural waterslide made a for a wonderful few days.

Driving away from this bit of paradise, the dominant feature on the landscape is the sugar cane, covering every bit of the flat lowlands. With the kids asking lots of questions and cane infrastructure all around us we decided to see what we could learn from a refinery visit.

This is one of the cool bits of travel, getting the kids fascinated with the world they live in and focusing their energy and attention to learning how it works. Back at the van the kids were able to put together a lengthy spiel on the sugar cane refinery process.

Finally, to round the week off….a Reef Trip!! We pulled into the much acclaimed Cairns Coconut only to discover that the man made attractions weren’t as cool as Crystal Creek, and so taking advantage of a few spare days we were able to squeeze in another Reef Trip.

And that is another week down offtheMooring. Next week we look forward to a visit from Grandpa Poppa (“Rabbit”) and also the Griffith-Boyle clan!
